Evening has arrived and the moon is already high, its time to enjoy the cool with family, friends, colleagues over a kava bowl, kava eases muscles, relaxes the mind, ruffled egos fade and all is well, conversation flows and easy laughter lifts the burden of another days work. A pleasant restful sleep always follows an evening of a few bowls of kava.
3,000 years of traditional use in the pacific islands attests to the safety and efficacy of kava used in moderation as most have always done. Nature has gifted us many chemotypes of kava and like different wine varieties kava variations provide us with favourites to suit everyone, in Samoa the conditions produce mellow types, the most common varieties are Ava Talo, Ava La'au, Ava Lea' and Ava Mumu, personally I love Ava Lea' for its almost immediate lift and pleasant after glow, Ava Mumu is my next choice as it has a slow smooth pleasant relaxing effect, then Ava La'au as a perfect afterwork chill out, Ava Talo is a hardy variety more tolerant of dry spells, aged 4 years or more when its makeup has matured enough to complete its development is also good.
It is important to note that natural kava has glutathione a powerful antioxidant that helps with many processes, none the less its not recommended to consume kava if you have liver problems nor with alcohol or medications as kava can potentiate or interfere with their metabolism. Moderation in all things seems a good approach.
